The presence of mathematics in the Dialogues Plato is notorious: in the Timaeus, the structure of the universe is based on regular polyhedra (that's why they called Platonic solids), which in turn are analyzed in terms of two fundamental triangles with sides immeasurable. In the Menon, dialogue on excellence (arete), Socrates, Plato ie, takes the problem of duplication square, a special case of the Pythagorean theorem to argue that knowledge is recollection (anamnesis) and incidentally illustrate the interactive teaching through questions and answers (maieutics), all based in the transmigration of souls (metempsychosis). In the Theaetetus, as well as in law, discussed the issue of incommensurable magnitudes. In, The Republic, we propose the ideal curriculum for the ideal citizens of the ideal polis, which, of course, is based on the four mathemata: arithmetic, geometry, astronomy and music.
is noted however that the influence of mathematics, although less explicit, but more profound and meaningful in the theory is identified with Plato's theory of Forms (also called ideas), discussed in several of his dialogues, especially in the Republic and the Parmenides, a story will be addressed in subsequent research.
TRINITY PLATO
To illustrate his hierarchical conception of the universe, Plato's use of allegory known as the divided line. Here the levels of reality and knowledge are presented by means of a vertical line divided into two parts first. The lower part corresponds the sensible world (the subject of mere opinion, doxa) and superior to the intelligible world of forms (the subject of authentic knowledge, episteme). Each of these parts is divided into two, so that the original line is divided into four segments or levels. The lower level, ie the first segment up, representing reflections and shadows above him is the second segment corresponding to ordinary material things. These two segments are less than half the original line that corresponds to the sensible world. The third level (first of the intelligible world), corresponds to the mathematical objects (accessible through the axiomatic deductive method). In the fourth level, the higher forms of knowledge which can only be reached through the Platonic dialectic. Dominating
the last level, and therefore all the rest, this triad of the True, the Beautiful, and Good, these forms, in a last effort of mystical abstraction merge in the Supreme Good, also called the One [1]
The history of ideas that rule the world with respect to the perception of reality, recognize the meaning of what was begun by Plato expressed, theories stripped of metaphysical ideals, can be appreciated as metaphors for deep and powerful insights that form the fabric of intellectual civilization bequeathed to us by the Greeks.
seems that his first contact with the advanced mathematics took place in his first visit to southern Italy, some think that the reason for his astonishment was the regular polyhedra, or perhaps immeasurable [ 2] the fact can be interpreted as a series of arithmetic deficiency compared to geometry as the basis of all science. The following year he founded the Academy, calling for everyone to study geometry if they wanted to understand the universe.
Academy recorded a record, more than existed a century earlier, in Magna Grecia, a mystical community dedicated to the study and contemplation of the numbers generated by the One, which were regarded as key components of the whole, is ie the universe. Its most prominent teachers mathematikoi called, and among them, there are bare of the immeasurable, his name Archytas of Tarentum and the founder of the sect Pythagoras. [3]
Loaded legend, the story is guided curious or sublime science of fate, nevertheless, it really captures the interest is that the statement is accompanied by a proof. A test that does not appeal to experience, nor the senses, or authority, or tradition, or law, or faith, even the so-called common sense, and basically only reason.

[2] Two segments are incommensurable when they have no common measure, that is, when they can not be measured with the same unit of measure, ie when there is a third segment that fits an exact number of times each.
[3] Pythagorean is the primacy of form over matter, were the matheamta Pythagorean, and the idea that mathematics was the substrate of the universe, the history Pythagorean and metempsychosis are words like Pythagorean theorem and mathematics, harmony, cosmos and philosophy. And Pythagorean is the old definition of beauty and unity in diversity, the harmony of the parts together and everything.
